Some of the easiest resolutions you can make each year surround your health. They may be to eat healthier, exercise consistently or spend more time outside. But what about your eye health…shouldn’t taking care of your vision be a priority too? If you haven’t added it to your list of resolutions this year, it’s not too late! Over the month of December, we shared several eye care resolutions on our Facebook page and now we’ve compiled them all for your here in one place:
- Visit yearly and see clearly. Schedule an annual eye exam to maintain your eye health and treat any new or existing conditions that may arise!
- Support your eyes with nutritious foods! Vitamins C and E, zinc, lutein, zeaxanthin, and omega-3 fatty acids all play a role in eye health. They can help prevent cataracts and may also fight a common cause of vision loss when you’re older: age-related macular degeneration (AMD).
- Explore your family’s eye health risk factors! Many hereditary eye diseases don’t show symptoms until later in life and some can progress with no warning signs at all! Knowledge of past and present family eye disorders can help save your vision. Before your next eye exam, do some research so you’re prepared to share your findings with your ophthalmologist!
- Take protection from the sun seriously. Harmful UV light can cause damage to your eyes. Using sunglasses with 100% UV protection can help protect them while outdoors!
